Holmes - Holmes EP

Slow 8-Bit! Being is simple. Life is simple. The modern world is complex, spastic and confusing (most of the time). But the natural, straight being is simple. Truth is simple. Everything just IS. Very, very easy. Perhaps Holmes knows what I'm talking about, because his first release is pure being. Look at the cover: This fellow don't try to be a badass. The minimalistic beauty of this work is amazing. While other people are trying to create something big, with big covers, big music and a big ego... Holmes gives a damn. All needless waste is missing here, and this simplicity is so gorgeous. Let's get back on tha carpet, brothers and sisters. These slow, warm chiptunes (London Sketch 1, London Sketch 2 and London Sketch 3!) will lead you back to the source of all being. Sober. Uncomplex. Direct emotions!

"To see the world in a grain of sand, and to see heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hands, and eternity in an hour." - William Blake

This album is like a walk in the empty streets of 1880's London, while the rain is falling on a warm summer night, dripping like god's tears over the mossy cobblestone-pavement. I've heard that this great EP is heavily inspired by the talented bloke called Monovfox, and yes, the classical touch reminds me of him - and like Mono, it also sounds to me like the Minecraft OST. Jippie! Come with us...

3/3 Sherlock Pipers for you!

Nullsleep - Electric Heart Strike

The quality of this release is marvelous. No wonder, Nullsleep is one of the best known 8-Bit artists of this weird world. His live-shows are legendary. His albums, too. His Electric Heart Strike contains some glitchy, ruff tunes (Dirty ROM Dance Mix), fast, pumping space-race OSTs (Destination Tomorrow), happy, catchy melancholia-hymns (Ballistic Picnic - plz watch the live video on YT!) and a lazy, lovely opener (Her Lazer Light Eyes). The last two are larger-than-life. If you love 8-Bit music, and you don't know these evergreens yet... you are a cat with two legs. Get this album, hobbling rat! Just a joke. I can't force you towards your bliss.
That's all. Why I should write more? Ballistic Picnic and Her Lazer Light Eyes are perfect summaries of the lovely, godly 80s nintendo-feeling. When God says "perfect" he means PERFECT. Don't waste your time by going to work or by learning for your idiotic, close study. Take a special holiday now. Get your last dollars, buy tons of frozen pizza at your supermarket, wear your old Hero Turtles-pyjama, get your Nintendo Entertainment System out of your bloody basement. Hear this two songs. Eat pizza until your stomach is hurting. Hear this two songs. Smile. Life is easy. Your childhood was easy. Teleport yourself into the greatest era of your being. Nullsleep is THE soundtrack of your forgotten yesterdays. Pizza. Hero Turtles. Hot Pockets. Mario and his racoon-suit. This two songs. What do you need more? Be happy. You are a part of a great thing.

All my love goes out to Nullsleep. God is feeling your tunes, bro!

1/1 Hot Pocket with sunglasses for this record!

FuturNari - Another Unlikely Hero II

It's time to outing myself: God doesn't like "cool" stuff very much. If you send him your "cool" stuff, he will review it, yes, but the truth is, that he likes lovely music a lot more! There are many dudes in the chiptune-scene who are wanting to act like the cool guy, they are creating most of the time "aggressive" sounds, to show how tough and scabious they are. They are like the "hard metal dude" in your neighbourhood, who thinks Manowar are true warriors. No problem with that. It's Ok. But this shit can't touch God's infinite soul. God wants deep, spirit-touching input. Most of the pseudo-tuff chiptune-boys outta there want to act cool, because they are fearing Love. No problem with that. It's Ok. But FuturNari is not one of these lizards. Thanks to God. Thanks to myself!

This album could be one of my alltime-favourites. Strong melodies, a great sensitivity for creating retro-atmospheres and the ability to induce beautiful VGM-emotions. Another Unlikely Hero (II) saves you from boring, icy chiptunes. This record is for everyone, who loves the good old times, who don't like the modern age of cool- and coldness.
Just call for this super-hero, and he will be there for you:

Monovfox - Airplane At Night: 8 Movements

Please check your seatbelt. It's time to get high! Monovfox have entered your plane, and he will hijack the machine! He will transform it into a dream-machine. Please leave your fear on the ground, lean back, and enjoy the jaunt. He just wants your best, he will guide us into white pixel-clouds and towards the infinite, black sky. This nice Canadian got no bloody bombs in his bag, only lowbit synthesizer and his ancient Gameboy.
Watching A Western Movie will remind every World Of Warcraft-Player of the Grizzly Hills-theme. My soul is melting. Nearing Dreamland's bloom can't be formed into a silly sentence. It gives you the warm, fuzzy feeling of past retro-days. I don't want to bore you with my reviews, but I can't manage to not mention the following words: PURE BEAUTY, RETRO-ENERGY, HEART-MELTING 8-BIT, LOVE, LOVE AND... LOVE.
This record is pure beauty, because it is submitting to you heart melting retro-energy, packed into lovely 8-Bit sounds and lovely HQ-strings. All right?

Ok, Mono is also presenting some pretty delicate arranged high-bit string-pieces. The String Quartet Of The Night tracks are showing the air passengers his great talent in composing classical music. I don't know any other record that reminds me so much of Little Nemo: Dream Master on the NES, Monovfox is a night-lover, a great dreamer, and you can feel this in every single note of his night-releases. This album is skyjacking you, it will force you to dream. It will regenerate your imagination. Switch off your shitty TV. Your pineal gland is frozen! This warm music will melt the ice.
Ready To Land is my favourite track, one of the coolest music I've ever heard! I love you, Mono. I can feel this vibe! I love you for this! Thanks, brother!

VF_DOS_ - Blue Shirts

Ok, I've just come back from a nice local, where I've drunk 3 delicious cocktails. I think it is time for the VF_DOS_ review now.

It's simple. It smells like New York City, like cafés at midnight. Modest Rock-Music!? Hmm, yes. Erm, no! Something is different with this record. It's special. The melodies are special. Everything is special. I love the cover, because it is... erm, special. Fuck AC/DC. Fuck Nickelback. I think Vin Forte is the smart, cool guy. This is just honest guitar-music with nice variety. Every track is unique and got an own atmosphere. Fresh baselines here and mellowing organs there. The music bears me away - into the godly night sky.
So, lets shit on all my words. Just download it. Upload it on your Mp3-player, and take a walk in the nocturnal streets of your damn town.

I never heard rock-music presented in such way before. Some melodies are even reminding me of old video-games: Black Gator for example. Winter In My Pocket is just cute melancholy. Union Square breaks out into a genius trumpet orchestra (or something like that). Dimetapp Dreams, yeah, it is the brilliant fellow for a walk in the nocturnal streets of your damn town. Dammit! I repeat myself.

Upload this cool record on your Mp3-player. Take a walk in the nocturnal streets of your damn town! Inhale enlightenment!
I repeat myself, right?

Cocktails are tasty.

VF_DOS_ is tasty, too. So don't be a fool, and enjoy this free music!

I spend 1/1 cup coffee for all of you. This will be a long night.
VF_DOS_ is with us.

The Twilight Division - Dream Master

DOWNLOAD THE RECORD HERE

Lean back, start daydreaming and check out this underrated record. If you google for "The Twilight Division", you will only get 4-5 results. That's crazy. TTD released already three records on the Betamod Netlabel, but it seems to me, that nobody recognized this really. Nobody helped him to spread his great sounds. If you spend so many hours and days to create such a tender pack of music, you are tired. You release the stuff at a netlabel, and you hope people are supporting your work. You've done your part, now your "followers" should take action. Posting this stuff into a forum is no big deal. Send it forward to your friends is no big deal, too. But nobody did this shit for him. Even the comments on the netlabel page are a poor picture: Two comments for three records!? Holy shit.

What's going on with you? Posting a damn comment takes ten seconds. I think that many folks outta there are just deadened, lazy assholes, who are thinking good music falls from the sky. It's the over-stimulation we are facing in this modern world. Everywhere is damn music. Everywhere is damn art. Commercialized. Dead. It's not special anymore. It's fucked up, daily routine.
I'm a little bit angry about this. Why? The guy behind The Twilight Division pressed his damn soul into this Mp3-Files. You can feel it. Awesome, lovely, heart-juice soaked melodies vibrating on this undervalued album. Beautiful 8-Bit melodies on strong drums. Addiction makes you addicted. Submerged... wow! And The Climb ... PURE BEAUTY, TOO!

But nobody cherished this wonderful puddle of his friggin heart-blood.
Just for the info: The Twilight Divison is dead. Yes. TTD released no record since almost 4 years now.
Why?
Because you don't fuckin care!

I'm fuckin sad about this. Crazy world. Crazy, crazy world.
Perhaps this darn review changes anything. But I'm not sure... :-(

R.I.P TWILIGHT DIVISION. I LOVE YOU.

5/5 Heavy hearts, from me, for you.

Various Artists — Equilibrium

It´s hard to explain my feelings.
This is beyond all words that have ever existed.

This compilation is the heaven. If your melancholic retro-heart beats for The Legend Of Zelda: Links Awakening on Game Boy, if your Nintendo-soul is hungry for this warm Japano-RPG-feeling, if you just want a lovely blast from the past: This is your place. Right here, right now: Equilibrium. Various talented Artists have pounded their cardiaczzz out of their pixelated chest to make you happy. Don´t despise this present - download this record and experience a journey to the land of your deepest longings.

I quote someone who commented at the Ubiktune page about this masterpiece:
"You guys did it again. The musicianship on here is seriously among the best in the world. I don't even think this is hyperbole. What you guys have done with these simple and fundamental tones can almost bring a tear to the eye. I am very thankful to be a part of a community where music like this is made, and distributed for free."- NorrinRadd22
Kulor, Blitz Lunar, Velathnos, nq\skrju, C-jeff, RushJet1, Tony Thai, FearofDark and surasshu created a timeless 8-Bit masterwork, that touches my pneuma like the beginning-scene in Chrono Trigger, when you wake up in your room, and this fuckin sweet music begins to play.
Sorry, I don´t want to be hysteric. But:

THIS MUSIC IS GODDAMN BEAUTIFUL, AND EVERY FRICKIN´ RETRO-VIDEOGAMER SHOULD HEAR THIS EPIC BLOOOOODY MAGNUM OPUZ!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!

Don´t miss this one. We should celebrate this like a memorial stone of the NES-Era.
Pure beauty, pure creativity, pure fantasy, pure love, pure everything.
Like a burning sword of passionate Lowbit-Love into your pineal gland.

Have a great time with this one, folks. Holy hell. Pure Beauty!
I think Terranigma is saved in my soul forever.
